D vs DD vs E Cup: What's the Actual Difference?

Cup size labelling is genuinely confusing — and the confusion is made worse by the fact that different countries use different systems. Here's what you need to know.

The UK System (Used by Curvy Kate)

UK sizing goes: A, B, C, D, DD, E, F, FF, G, GG, H, HH, J, JJ, K. Notice that DD and E are different sizes — DD comes first. Many women assume E is bigger than DD but in the UK system, DD comes between D and E.

The US System

US sizing goes: A, B, C, D, DD, DDD/E, F, G, H, I, J, K. Here DD and DDD are used before E.

Sister Sizing

This is the secret most people don't know: if your usual size doesn't fit perfectly, try going up a band size and down a cup — or vice versa. A 34F and a 36E have the same cup volume, just different band lengths.

For Malaika Orders

All our Curvy Kate pieces use UK sizing. If you normally shop US sizes, add one cup letter — your US DD is a UK E. Our team is always happy to help via WhatsApp if you're unsure.
